Finally, something for our comic-ing followers! (Applicable to the rest of you as well).

Hey, everyone! I can’t remember if I’ve posted this before- mostly because I’m not sure why I wouldn’t have before now. 

Here for you is the 25 Essential Expression Challenge of internet fame. (Here is the tutorial that goes with it).

The idea is that you fill out the chart with a sketch of your character making each face. I recommend that you also try getting out some more paper and drawing the body postures that go with each expression as well. It’s great for writers as well as illustrators, because a) it’s easier to describe things if you have a visual for them, and b) you can find inspiration for events (when usually my character looks more like this, why would they make a face like that?)

FOR WRITERS WHO CANNOT DRAW: Do not despair, my good friends. Instead, I want you to print out this sheet like the rest. Sit down with it, close your eyes and do your best to picture each expression in your head. Then, in each box, jot down descriptive notes and refer to the sheet while you’re writing.
